It is all becoming a little predictable at present as Cruz Azul continue to dominate their opponents and have now dropped just 2 points from their opening 8 matches. Last night’s victims were Querétaro who actually led early when Ricardo Jesus headed them in front but it did not last long. Rogelio Chavez equalised from the penalty spot before Mauro Formica thumped La Maquina into the lead before the break. Chavez added a spectacular, if somewhat bizarre third, after half time when his volley from close to half way was comically dealt with by Edgar Hernández. There are still no signs of Cruz Azul slowing down.
Later, Chiapas surprised Tijuana in the Estadio Caliente, where Los Xolos are normally so strong. A failed three at the back formation backfired badly for Cesar Farias and Chiapas ran riot. Two goals from Carlos Ochoa and another from Luis Robles gave the visitors a three goal lead at the break and there was no coming back.
Queretaro 1 – 3 Cruz Azul
Tijuana 0 – 3 Chiapas
