Cruz Azul crowned CONCACAF Champions League champions (VIDEO)

Cruz Azul captured the Champions League for a record sixth time with a 1-1 draw in the Estadio Nemezio Diez. Mariano Pavone’s poachers goal, late in the first half proved decisive following the goalless draw last week in Mexico City. With the away goal, Toluca knew that two goals were needed and despite Edgar Benitez smashing in an equaliser on the night with half an hour remaining, they were unable to find another.

The victory for Cruz Azul makes them the most successful side in the CONCACAF region beating the five Champions League titles of bitter city rivals, Club América and means that they will represent México in the 2014 Club World Cup in December.
