The Estadio Olímpico Universitario has not been a happy hunting ground for Chivas in recent years but a late Fernando Arce freekick gave Los Rojiblancos a deserved win over a well below-par Pumas. Later, in Liga MX’s final match of Round Two, Querétaro managed to see off league newcomers, Club Universidad de Guadalajara in a tight 1-0 victory. Two defeats now for Leones Negros as they must quickly improve if they are to survive in this division.
Pumas 0 – 1 Chivas
Chivas produced one of their best performances in a while to register a valuable away win over Pumas. Fernando Arce’s 87th minute freekick was just enough to edge a deeply disappointing Pumas.
Prior to the goal, Chivas had been reduced to 10 men after Angel Reyna had foolishly thrown the ball at David Cabrera and it appeared that perhaps any chance of all three points went with him. However, Arce’s second freekick in two games decided the match and showed some signs to be optimistic for Chivas fans.
Club Universidad de Guadalajara 0 – 1 Querétaro
Both sides lost in the opening round and neither looked particularly impressive in this but it was Los Gallos Blancos were earned the win, thanks to Camilo Sanvezzo’s strike on the hour mark.
Los Leones Negros are going to need to improve quick if they are to survive more than a season in the top flight as they produced another rather disjointed and certainly toothless performance which will be punished at this level.
