Leones Negros managed to score their first victory back in the top flight on Sunday afternoon in Guadalajara against bicampeones, León, to give themselves a glimmer of hope and open up the relegation fight. Buoyed by the early sending off of Edwin Hernandez, Leones Negros were able to capitalise on their advantage and with 20 minutes remaining, Fidel Martinez smashed in from close range. Despite losing captain, Leandro Cufré late on for a reckless challenge, Los Leones held on to a famous win.
Earlier, Pumas and Tijuana showed just why both sides have struggled so far this season, with a sloppy encounter, littered with misplaced passes. Eduardo Herrera stabbed Pumas in front 5 minutes before the break but they were unable to see out the first half. Good work by Dario Benedetto doen the left eventually found Richard Ruiz and he fired the ball into the roof of the net. Neither side wanted to lose and so inevitably the game drew to a close with both sides satisfied with the point.
Pumas 1 – 1 Tijuana
Leones Negros 1 – 0 León
