Pumas returned to winning ways after two consecutive draws under new boss, Guillermo Vázquez and moved back up in contention for a playoff spot despite a spirited fightback from Morelia. Pumas three goal lead proved unassailable and although Morelia remain bottom of the league perhaps there were some positives provided by the two second half goals. José Olvera’s own goal was followed by a wonderful Eduardo Herrera volley and a smart Ismael Sosa drive and although Morelia pulled goals back through Erik Aguirre and Carlos Guzmán, Pumas held on.
Later in Tijuana, Los Xolos eased to victory over Santos as new manager, Daniel Guzman made an impressive home debut. Alfredo Moreno skipped around Santos goalkeeper, Oswaldo Sánchez to give Xolos the lead after just three minutes and although Juan Pablo Rodríguez equalised from the spot, the home side then took control. Moreno added his second just after the break and then fellow Argentine, Darío Benedetto scored a third before Colombian, Dayro Moreno completed the scoring in injury time.
Morelia 2 – 3 Pumas
Tijuana 4 – 1 Santos Laguna
