Ronaldinho made his Liga MX bow in Guadalajara’s Estadio Omnilife and helped Querétaro to a comfortable victory over Chivas. Los Rojiblancos were left with a mountain to climb after just 5 minutes when Carlos Salcido was sent off and conceded a penalty but it provided an early opportunity for the Brazilian attraction to open his account. Chivas battled well for the remainder of the game but with Ronaldinho and the impressive Camilo Sanvezzo pulling the defence around it was only a matter of time before the lead was extended. The two combined perfectly for Sanvezzo’s goal after 70 minutes and minutes later it was three when Jose Rodriguez failed to hold William Fernando da Silva’s long range strike. Chivas did manage a consolation through Giovani Hernández’s wonderful freekick but Othoniel Arce restored the three-goal cushion. Matters on the pitch conspired against Chivas but it was a promising opening performance from Ronaldinho and his new teammates.
Earlier, Toluca defeated Monterrey in a battle between two of Liga MX’s top sides. It took a moment of absolute magic from Lucas Lobos on the hour mark to win the match as the Argentine schemer let fly from 35 yards and found perfectly the top corner. After a slow start, Lobos and Toluca are starting to find some form.
Toluca 1 – 0 Monterrey
Chivas 1 – 4 Querétaro
