Miguel Herrera has named the group of players currently plying their trades outside Mexico for the forthcoming friendlies against Honduras and Panama. Javier Hernandez is called up for the first time as a Real Madrid player and he will be joined by Guillermo Ochoa, Héctor Herrera, Javier Aquino and Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres.
It caps a good week for Chicharito who scored his first goals in the white of Madrid and will now come back into the fold for Mexico as he looks to close in on Jared Borgetti’s all time scoring record.
The others are also not too surprising and although there are some high profile omissions it is understood that Herrera will call up more of the European based players for the final friendlies of the year against Netherlands and Belarus as they take place in Europe.
Raul Jimenez is one such player, who can concentrate on his duties with Atletico Madrid over the next few weeks without the distraction of El Tri. After such a big move, the youngster is taking some time to find his feet and so a stay in Spain maybe beneficial.
The likes of Villarreal’s Giovani dos Santos and Jonathan dos Santos, and Porto’s Diego Reyes will miss these upcoming matches but be back in contention for later in the year, while Andres Guardado is ruled out through injury.
Mexico face Honduras on October 9th in Chiapas and then take on Panama on October 12th in Queretaro.
