Monterrey edge Atlas to keep pace and there are wins for Cruz Azul, Tigres and Morelia (VIDEO)

Monterrey ensured that they remained on the coattails of América with a victory over their closest rival in the table, Atlas. Brazilian striker, Lucas Silva’s first half brace was enough for the important victory despite Edgar Castillo’s late deflected goal for the visitors. Tigres climbed into the playoff spots with an exciting 3-2 win over Pachuca. Matías Alustiza headed Los Tuzos in front but a thunderous long range effort from Joffre Guerrón brought Tigres level before the break. Edgar Lugo and Juninho added two more after half time and although Ariel Nahuelpan pulled one back from the spot, the visitors held on for a valuable away win. Earlier in the Estadio Azul, León’s woeful form continued as they limped to a 1-0 defeat to Cruz Azul, courtesy of Mariano Pavone’s early strike and in Guadalajara, Morelia inflicted a damaging 2-1 defeat on Leones Negros in their bid to avoid relegation. Goals from Carlos Guzmán and Jorge Zárate lifted Morelia to 6 points, level with Leones Negros as they prop up the Apertura league table.

Cruz Azul  1 – 0  León

Monterrey  2 – 1  Atlas

Pachuca  2 – 3  Tigres

Leones Negros  1 – 2  Morelia
