León have not enjoyed the most auspicious of starts to this season’s Apertura but had just enough to defeat Querétaro in the Estadio La Corregidora on Friday evening. Mauro Boselli slotted home a 17th minute penalty, awarded slightly controversially for what looked like a tug of Derley’s shirt outside the box, to give La Fiera the lead. Los Gallos Blancos had their own opportunity from the spot before half time but Camilo Sanvezzo smashed his effort against the crossbar. Minutes after the break, Querétaro were reduced to ten men when Orbelín Pineda was shown a second yellow card for a robust challenge and it appeared to be very much León’s night. However, despite their numerical disadvantage, Sanvezzo made amends for his earlier miss with a smart turn and shot to level the match. Parity lasted only a minute as José ‘Gallito’ Vázquez rifled Las Esmeraldas back in front and scored what proved to be the winner.
