Wins for América and Toluca at the top but Chepo fails to lift Chivas (VIDEO)

América manager, Antonio Mohamed may have spent the week bemoaning the structure of the Liguilla and the injustices of finishing the regular season top but these grievances appear meaningless next to the troubles that continue to plague rivals, Chivas. New Chivas manager, Jose Manuel “Chepo” de la Torre knows just how big his job is after watching his side put in yet another tepid performance, en route to a 2-1 defeat against an improved León side and a result that ensures they remain in a perilous relegation position. There are no such worries for América who enjoyed a routine victory over Monterrey in the Estadio Azteca and they are being pursued by Toluca who enjoyed an excellent 2-0 win over Atlas to leapfrog them in the table into second. Tigres are up to fourth and are all but confirmed for their place in the playoffs after a narrow win against Cruz Azul, who finished the match with nine men and Chiapas are also in contention after a 2-0 victory over Santos. Finally, in a crunch descenso fixture, Leones Negros came back to earn a draw against Puebla thanks to Luís Telles’ stunning strike.

Club América  2 – 0  Monterrey

Puebla  1 – 1  Leones Negros

Tigres  1 – 0  Cruz Azul

León  2 – 1  Chivas

Atlas  0 – 2  Toluca

Chiapas  2 – 0  Santos Laguna
