Club América’s place in La Liguilla may well be safe but the manner of their defeat on Friday night to Querétaro was a shock. The pace of Camilo Sanvezzo and William da Silva caused Las Águilas all sorts of problems and both scored wonderful goals before the break to give Los Gallos Blancos what appeared to be an unassailable lead. However, when Ricardo Osorio was shown a red card for a high challenge on Martín Zuniga the momentum shifted and two quick goals from Oribe Peralta and Luís Mendoza put América level. A betting man would have been confident that if one team was going to go on and win the match it would have been the league leaders but instead in the 90th minute a defensive lapse allowed Sanvezzo to steal in behind the defence and steer the ball beyond Moises Munoz.
Later in Torreón, Pumas earned another away point with a 1-1 draw against Santos that leaves both sides just outside the playoff places. In the circumstances it represents an excellent point for Pumas given that goalkeeper, Alejandro Palacios was sent off with 20 minutes remaining after bringing down Djaniny as he skipped around him. The resulting penalty was missed but just minutes later, Santos appeared to have snatched a winner. Javier Orozco volleyed the goal from close range but just two minutes later, Daniel Ludueña curled an expertly placed shot from outside the box into the bottom corner.
