Defensive lapses in the Estadio Omnilife angered Chivas manager, Chepo de la Torres as his Chivas side required a last minute Jair Pereira goal to earn a draw against Tijuana. The point is of no real value to either side as Los Rojiblancos remain in relegation form and Los Xolos will not find qualification for La Liguilla difficult.
The initial defensive howler from the home side allowed Alfredo Moreno the simplest of openers but perhaps given the sides current plight, Chivas should get some credit for the manner in which they still fought. Omar Bravo headed Chivas level ten minutes before the break and then with the last kick of the half, Bravo edged them in front. The fans responded and for the first time in a long time, the half time whistle was not greeted with jeers.
However, further sloppy defending allowed Los Xolos to come back and goals from Moreno and Darío Benedetto turned the match around, as Tijuana were desperately in need of an away win, if they were to keep their hopes of the playoffs alive. With time running out, and free tickets for the next match for all supporters, in the event of defeat, Jair Perreira made amends for his earlier mistake to head Chivas level. Make no mistake, under de la Torre, Chivas are still very much in relegation form and so next weekend’s Superclásico is huge.
Earlier, León looked a little like their former selves as they defeated Toluca, in an entertaining 3-2 win. Mauro Boselli headed La Fiera in front before Pablo Velázquez equalised from the penalty spot. Just after half time, León benefitted from a dreadful refereeing decision as Elias Hernández’s inswinging free kick was attacked by several teammates from offside positions. At the last minute, Gallito Vázquez pulled out from touching the ball and so it flew without interference into the net with the officials judging that no infraction had been made. Miguel Sabah then extended the lead with a header and although Erbin Trejo pulled one back late on, León held on for an excellent three points. The bicampeones are now a point outside the playoff places after an awful start to the campaign.
Toluca 2 – 3 León
Chivas 3 – 3 Tijuana
