Bicampeones, León are finding some ominous form just as the regular season comes to an end, and if La Fiera sneak into the playoffs as they did in the Clausura, no one will want to face the green machine. Mauro Boselli gave León an early lead from the penalty spot and in the second half goals from Gullit Peña, a second controversial Boselli strike and a Yamilson Rivera effort gave Los Esmeraldas their most impressive result of the campaign. Sitting in the eighth and final playoff spot with two rounds remaining few would bet against León not qualifying and after that, anything would be possible.
Tigres are also proving that they will be a threat in the playoffs after another victory in the Estadio Universitario. Juninho’s firmly struck free kick was enough to see off Querétaro, who have seen little improvement since signing Ronaldinho. Their chances of making the Liguilla now appear remote but Tigres will be brimming with confidence having not lost since round seven.
Pachuca remain in the top eight for now after a 1-1 draw against Puebla. Luís Noriega headed relegation threatened Puebla in front but an Ariel Nahuelpán penalty ensured a share of the points and leaves Los Tuzos with a two-point cushion over ninth placed Cruz Azul.
This lead might have reduced further but Cruz Azul were unable to find a way past Chiapas in Tuxtla Gutiérrez. The goalless draw leaves La Máquina sweating over their chances of catching eighth place with two matches remaining. Los Jaguares are unable to breathe just yet also even though they sit in sixth for the timebeing.
Finally, Leones Negros remain at the foot of the descenso after a 1-1 draw against Santos, who still hold on to their hopes of making the playoffs. Djaniny’s close range finish gave Santos a first half lead but Héctor Reynoso’s penalty denied Los Albiblancos what would have been an invaluable away win.
Puebla 1 – 1 Pachuca
Tigres 1 – 0 Querétaro
León 4 – 0 Atlas
