Pachuca could have taken a step towards the playoffs with a win in Torreón, but instead a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the newly crowned Copa MX champions meant it was Santos who crept level with Los Tuzos in the table and will go into the final day well and truly in the mix. Another side who will be in amongst them is Querétaro, who bounced back from last week’s defeat to defeat Morelia 2-0. Los Gallos Blancos remain outside La Liguilla for now but will go into the final day with it all to play for.
Dionicio Escalante’s close range header and Camilo Sanvezzo’s second half penalty proved enough for Querétaro to pick up a vital three points but the same will be needed when they travel to playoff rivals, Chiapas next weekend. After the glamour signing of Ronaldinho missing out on the playoffs completely would be disastrous for Los Gallos.
An ill-disciplined Pachuca might just be made to pay for their defeat in Torreón, after letting a lead slip and ending the match with 9 men. Dieter Villalpando’s superb strike from distance gave Los Tuzos the lead but Mauro Cejas levelled before half time before the match turned in the 73rd minute after Aquivaldo Mosquera was sent off. Minutes later, Andrés Rentería fired Santos in front and when Ariel Nahuelpán joined Mosquera for an early bath any hopes of a comeback were dashed. Pachuca will be without both for their crucial home match to Veracruz on the final day, where anything less than three points will result in failure.
Querétaro 2 – o Morelia
Santos 2 – 1 Pachuca
