Atlas took a significant step towards the Semi Finals last night with a 1-0 win away to Monterrey. It may have been very different if Humberto Suazo had not skied his 22nd minute penalty but ultimately the first leg was decided by a moment of brillance by Luís Caballero. The Paraguayan unleashed a vorocious shot from 35 yards which dipped and moved and was too much for Jonathan Orozco. Los Rojinegros will be confident heading back to Guadalajara with the win.
Later, Chiapas earned a deserved draw at home to Toluca but Los Diablos Rojos will remain favourites ahead of the second leg. Jerónimo Amione gave Toluca the lead on the brink of half time with an overhead kick following a corner kick which Chiapas failed to clear but Emiliano Armenteros deservedly fired Los Jaguares level in the 67th minute.
Monterrey 0 – 1 Atlas
