Supporters may yet to be sold on manager, Antonio Mohamed but Club América have one foot in the Apertura Final after sweeping to a the most comfortable of 3-0 wins in their Semi Final first leg away to Monterrey. A five minute spell in the first half swung the match for Las Aguilas as Luis ‘Quick’ Mendoza fired them in front, a minute before Hiram Mier was sent off for Los Rayados and then Efraín Velarde flicked the ball into his net to double the lead. The remainder of the match appeared to be more of a damage limitation exercise for the home side as América dominated and in the 83rd minute the advantage was increased and probably the tie killed when Mendoza tapped in a third.
Earlier in the Estadio Nemesio Díez, Toluca and Tigres played out a goalless draw in a match that promised a lot but failed to really ignite. Uruguayan, Egidio Arevalo was shown a straight red card for a rash challenge in the second half and his loss will be keenly felt by Tigres on Sunday.
Toluca 0 – 0 Tigres
Monterrey 0 – 3 Club América
