An unbelievable Ascenso Apertura Final was finally won by Necaxa after they played out a wonderful 4-4 draw with Coras Tepic and needed penalties to eventually be separated. The side from Aguascalientes are now a match away from gaining promotion to the top flight.
Despite taking an early lead, Necaxa found themselves trailing 3-1 and their chances of victory appeared slim but a remarkable turnaround saw Los Rayos turn the match around and actually take a lead, only to see Coras come back once more and level from the penalty spot.
Both sides kept their cool in the shootout and with every penalty successfully converted it came down to the fifth and final efforts. Jesús Gallardo, Necaxa’s goalkeeper, on loan from Atlas, guessed correctly and saved Miguel Basulto’s spotkick to seal the win.
