Veracruz got off to the best possible start to the Clausura 2015 and with it earned a vital three points in their bid to avoid relegation. A Leiton Jiménez brace was enough to defeat Santos in Torreón despite Los Guerreros taking a third minute lead through new Argentine signing, Diego González. Two instinctive close range finishes from the Colombian after half time turned the game around and now adds a little pressure to those sides around Los Tiburones Rojos in the descenso table. For Santos and their new signings it was a disappointing start to the campaign but Pedro Caixinha was adamant that his side would improve.
Later, Apertura semi finalists, Toluca were held to a goalless draw by Morelia in an uneventful game that exuded that opening weekend atmosphere of two sides still finding their feet after the break. David Depetris came closest to giving Morelia the points but his left footed shot came back off the post.
Santos Laguna 1 – 2 Veracruz
