Santos picked up a much needed first win of the Clausura with a thumping 4-1 win over a dreadful Monterrey side. Diego González nodded the home side in front with his second goal since his move from Lanús and Nestor Calderón fired them further in front before half time. Los Guerreros continued to push forward and minutes after the restart, Jesus Molina headed a third. Dorlan Pabon did manage a consolation from the penalty spot but only before Andrés Rentería tapped in the fourth for Santos.
Earlier, Veracruz and Cruz Azul maintained their unbeaten starts to the season as they cancelled each other out en route to a goalless draw.
While this might be a good result for both sides, the goalless draw that preceded it between Morelia and León was of no use to either. Both sides are still searching for a first win of the campaign and will begin to feel the pressure if the wait continues much more.
Morelia 0 – 0 León
Veracruz 0 – 0 Cruz Azul
Santos 4 – 1 Monterrey
