It may not have been pretty and a little undeserved but Chepo de la Torre and Chivas will not care a jot as Giovani Hernández’s 64th minute penalty gave Los Rojiblancos victory over Pachuca. With most of their relegation rivals, failing to pick up three points, it sees Chivas move a little further away from the drop.
Earlier, Club América defeated Tigres in a replay of the Apertura Final. The result was the same with Las Águilas coming out on top but much has changed and at present it did not appear like a meeting of two title challengers. Gustavo Matosas will be relieved that Darío Benedetto’s goal was enough and although his side are not yet producing the type of free-flowing, attacking football that is expected they are at least back on track.
Elsewhere, there were a host of draws. Veracruz left it late but managed to salvage a draw away to Monterrey, León picked up a draw against Chipas as they still search for a first win of the season, Atlas and Pumas cancelled each other out in Guadalajara and Cruz Azul maintained their unbeaten start to the season but will be disappointed with a goalless draw with Puebla.

Puebla 0 – 0 Cruz Azul
Chivas 1 – 0 Pachuca
